Defrosting car safety |
Now that the cold mornings are upon us and cars are freezing over, please be mindful when leaving your vehicle unattended.
With colder weather approaching, all residents are reminded not to leave vehicles running and unattended while de-icing or “warming up.” This common habit greatly increases the risk of quick “warm-up” or “frost-jacking” thefts. In some areas it may also result in fines.
To stay safe and protect your vehicle: Always remain with your vehicle while it’s running. Use proper de-icing tools—do not rely solely on idling. Keep doors locked whenever possible during de-icing. Ensure all windows, mirrors, lights, and cameras are fully clear before driving. Key Message: Never leave your vehicle running and unattended in cold weather—thieves can steal it in seconds, especially during winter cold snaps. And as always, please look out for one another—your neighbours, family, and friends. A quick reminder or a watchful eye can help prevent thefts and keep our community safe. Stay alert, stay warm, and stay safe.
